wow. Talk about a ride height challenge . . . .
-
I'm sure it's mother loves it.

Some one has a sense of humor. Looks like it picked it's skirt up so it wouldn't get wet while crossing the puddles.... ;)

I believe the clearance is to allow the bottom doors to open fully.
-
Just what was it used to haul?
-
Is that a ChemTrak label on the side of the car?

Copper ore if I'm not mistaken. Open to correction however...

That is confirmed here.

Interesting that it only has a 21 ft inside length. Big porches on the ends. Basically part ore car, part bridge.

Thanks for the link Richie. First I'd seen of a car like this.
Best wishes, Dave

Forget the gon... check out the SSW GP20R and the late phase SP GP40-2

Such cool stuff. If I wasn't so enamored with Conrail and wanted to model some western stuff, I'd be all over the SP...

I'm curious what the piping around the top and bottom are, heating elements?

I would think that the lower piping is the train line and the upper pipes are for the dumping mechanism.

That car has TrainCat written all over it...

Makes sense. I may have to play with SketchUP and see if I can figure out the rest of the dimenssions. Not that I have the skill to put one together, but a good excersize.

Some good pics at RRPA.

I think there's enough known dimensions (lettering etc..) to get something close.
I can check the ORER to see whats listed.

If either or both of you can pull this off, I'd appreciate it. This looks like a fun little scratchbuilding exercise, but my Sketchup abilities are non-existant.

it looks as if it is a repurposed beet gon.
