Title: Who wants drop steps?
Post by: craigolio1 on December 10, 2012, 09:14:40 PM
Hey everyone.

For a long time, a good looking drop step (for me second gen EMD and Alco) has been high on my wish list.  I personally have dozens of locos waiting for these.  Is there anyone else who wants the same parts?  If so, perhaps Craig (not me - I don't talk in the third person) might be interested in providing them.  I suggest BLMA because I have used dozens of his parts and each one is awesome.  Obviously others are qualified as well and they are welcome to step up.

I just figured with all of the other parts we have access to, it's one that has never really been addressed well.

Thanks, Craig

I found I needed drop steps on this kitbash recently.  The original model had none.

Yes, I agree, a separate drop steps detail would be good to have. My main question is whether it could be accomplished in etched metal or would have to be injection molded since there is detail on both sides, as Ron's SW shows. Anything remotely "nice" would be too thin for RP.

Two thin etchings sandwiched back-to-back would work, and likely be even more realistically thin than a casting. no?

No need. The Milwaukee Road was one of the few who didn't use these on any of their locomotives.

Best wishes, Dave

Aren't these separate parts on the MP15? Why not use those.
