Title: Seeking Photo of NP 44 tonner # 98 or #99?
Post by: mmagliaro on May 02, 2012, 01:45:23 AM
Further along my vein of looking at what unused, but decent, locos I've got in my stash that would
work as NP prototypes, I spy a Bachmann Spectrum 44 tonner.  Apparently, the NP had two of these,
#98 and #99, built in the 1940s.

Would anybody know of a source of a color photo of one of them?

Thanks!

IIRC, they were Yellow with Black safety stripes, but don't quote me. I'm going to do my Yellow Undec. as no 99.

The Northern Pacific Railway Museum has a 65-tonner that's kind of cool looking. I did up a 44-tonner in this paint scheme a few years ago -

Here's a picture of #99 post-NP -

Here's a picture of #98 -

It's tough to tell with B&W photos, but it seems like maybe the stripes are actually red?

Cheers,

@Mark, Red stripes are correct.  @Max, I'm going to look and see about color pictures in my collection for you.

Thanks guys!

I really like the 65 tonner in black.  Too bad the NP didn't do the 44 tonners that way.  I
think it's more visually appealing than the all-yellow paint scheme.  But yellow with red stripes it is.
Now, as for just what SHADE of yellow and red .... oh boy....

Andrew... that's one sharp switcher!!!  May have to use that scheme for a fictional shortline connection...
