No sign of those coil cars! In fact nothing really new at all.
Of interest, a third run of the modern gondolas and a re-run of SD7 and SD9, which I was actually hoping for...
-
I like the VOs and the Trainman Covered Hopper schemes. Finally a ROCK one. I know Brian's gonna be happy (especially at $7!).
Also, ooh, new #s for the 15-1s. That's a tough call. I'm actually surprised they didn't do the CR Quality scheme this go around. But I'm not complaining!
-
This is a massive relief to my wallet - I'm only in for one of the N&W boxcars ...
The low nose N&W units are basically useless for me.
The only other Atlas in the pipeline for me at the moment is the 20,700 tank (Atlas shows these shipped April 19) and the ex-P&WV 50 ton offsets which apparently are in a container at the moment.
Frees up cash for all the Bluford hoppers I just ordered. 8)

Three new body styles on the 1932 car! Oh wait, I must be dreaming because that's not feasible for manufactures to do. :P

I see they have California Northern SD-9s. I'm thrilled to see the SD-9s coming back, but the Cal. Northern SD is shown sans dynamic brake. That must be an art department mistake, right?
-
I'll be in for the Peavey too! Yes, never too many Rock covered hoppers.... ;D
-
For heaven's sake could they stop putting horn-hook couplers on the artwork?! That's just wrong and disturbing and too much of a shock to deal with this early in the morning.
-
I'm in for just about every scheme of the Thrall 4750's. The Rock Island and Peavey will be most welcome. Also in for the C&O and NC&StL Boxcars.
Central of Georgia SD9's are in the wrong scheme to be a hot seller. The need the Blue & Gray to sell a bunch. >:(
OOps and I forgot that we finally have an EJ&E loco in the VO1000's.
-
I'm tempted by the WM 40' Dbl Door cars, have these been released previously (the car not the roadname)? It says "newly tooled" but it is a Trainman peice...but then we have the Magor's which are Trainman....

I just jizzed my pants over the NS boxcars.
-
If I were to think about back-dating, that red and black GP-30 would come in really handy. Ofcourse, that woul dkeep me from getting another GEVO.
-
It's funny how much the KCS and CGW 30s look alike. It's almost like EMD had a pattern. Oh, wait... lol.

I think they "retooled" the single door into a double door a few yrs ago by adding the double door to the decades old single door tooling. So yes but mostly no - check the stirrups and the roof walks.
-
Actually, they retooled the 50' stock car to provide that sucker.
-
yeah... i placed my order with chuck recently... gotta love the High Speed Service of the NKP....
-
Incredible!
Looks like an Atlas vacation for me...

I'd imagine it's an art department error. They only had four all with DB, how hard would it be to screw that up? :-X
-
Interesting that they did the 1 PRR Baldwin switcher which was painted tuscan. Used in NY and NJ area. The only other switcher painted tuscan was an SW1 used at the Pittsburgh passenger station.

Yeah bingo, exactly my thoughts. I was tempted by the 40' PS-1's they had in WM but let them slide since they were the old tooling.

That the best catalog that my wallet has seen in a long time. ;D
-
Given the backlog, what sense would it make to announce a ton of new things.
Have you looked at the original vs. revised dates on some of these products?

They screwed up the color on the Cal Northern GP15s !!!! :o

Yeah, and they mis-spelled California on the GP-15's too, too!

Finally....SP SD9's again! ;D

Why do you think they save the pdf in a way so that the artwork can be "taken"?

Have to have more CB&Q SD units.....................

I'll get'em to say I got'em but damn that roofwalk is hideous. The stirrups and ladders are comparative to the Athearn 50' Dbl Door box.

I spoke with Cory last year about the Trainman retools. They are upgrading all the boxcars with new ends and sides. The only origonal tooling being recycled is the roofwalk, roof, interior and underframe. I understand the roof is from their stock cars to better match the prototype.
Very dry quarter.
-
The roof walk is pretty easy to fix with a new MT walk:

Chris - thanks - excellent side by side comparison. 8)

The "fixed" one is also lowered just a hair and I split the frame to stretch it a bit so the bolsters lined up with the body. Oh, and FVM wheels.

Great work Chris that's exactly what I had in mind! Glad to see it worked really well for you, guess I'll be doing the same now. Thanks Chris!

The outside braced cars cover much of the Alphabet Route (although N&W wasn't a part of it until it swallowed the Wabash, PWV and NKP...) Might have to scoop up a few of them for the steam era fleet. I also like the 1932 cars for the same reason.
I'll get the 40' WM box to support the cause. For 8 bucks street, I'm not going to quibble over details. A splash of weather and onto the rails with ya!

With the exception of the roofwalk, the 40' DD boxcars look very good. As Chris showed, a better roofwalk takes care of the one glaring issue. I picked up a Seaboard Air Line from the first run and was pleasantly surprised at how little work was needed to make the Trainman model fit in with the higher-end models.

I have yet to see on in person. How bad is it?
Microscale called for Reading Green as a match in their decal sets, and it was pretty much dead on to my eyes.
Here's one in did in HO about ten years back on a Walther's undec.

I have a few 40' DD's from the last batch. As stated, not that bad. Don't need a lot of these cars, however.

Would
having 'AtlasTom' breathing down the neck of the patternmaker every minute really speed up the process? Cannot believe that would help speed the process that much, it takes whatever time that it takes and we will each judge the result and vote with our wallets. I'm going now, I feel the need to rave incoherently on the Peco Forum...

Now that's an idea for a Trainman cartoon that I'll pay to see!

Since when was Railwire the Atlas forum???
If Atlas was my business, I'd be showing the DEALERS that I was out doing EVERYTHING I CAN DO to bring product to them to sell. Not playing around with Twitter!
Or at least I'd tweet: "OFF TO CHINA TO KICK SOME a$$ AND GET THAT CODE 55 DELIVERED PRONTO!!!"
Instead there is a baloney letter about catching up by mid year (which doesn't seem likely) and a love note to the company that presumably is responsible for their mess.
I have a lot of respect for the guys at Atlas who bring us great products, but not for their owners, who sold out entirely to China and ended up having a competitor holding them by the balls.
-
and a love note to the company that presumably is responsible for their mess.
Maybe that note was read as an obituary and therefore created the mess!
-
"Just to set the record straight, the Code 55 flex mold was damaged beyond repair."
I don't know what's so hard to understand.

Lou, you are still failing to realize that the "Tweet" was from April 19th, 2009

... I have a lot of respect for the guys at Atlas who bring us great products, but not for their owners, who sold out entirely to China and ended up having a competitor holding them by the balls.
You obviously don't know any of the reasons that led to Atlas moving the track manufacturing overseas based on your "selling out" statement, so you're not really in a position to pass judgment in that area. Come manufacture in New Jersey for a few decades and deal with continuously-tightening state regulatory restrictions, and then you would be able to offer a valid assessment.
Also, when you see another model railroad manufacturer have the temerity to try to make inroads in the track business, which is still the bread-and-butter of Atlas, then you can say the move to China might have some downside. Which is unlikely. The only way Atlas loses its major share of the track market is if they choose to abandon it. Which also is unlikely. And it's a family-owned business by the way, which if not for their pioneering efforts in the latter part of the last century, the industry - especially N scale - wouldn't be anywhere as advanced and diverse as it is today. And the family is hands-on and involved in the process, which means you should have as much respect for them as you do for the "guys."
