Title: Interesting car for the modern modeler
Post by: Puddington on April 13, 2008, 05:29:13 PM
Ran into this at Canadian Pacific's Havelock, Ontario yards today while taking the family to the restored train station for breakfast.....

Not knowing what is was I looked it up.....Here's what I found out.......

Developed in 1990, in partnership with the rail car manufacturer Procor, Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway, the CCPA Safety Training Tank Car CCPX 911 is a rail tank car safety tool which is operated under the auspices of Canada’s Chemical Producers.
The first vehicle of its kind, CCPX 911 is a key component to delivering TransCAER® value to CCPA member companies. It is also a valuable and supporting initiative of the transportation code under Responsible Care.

They have a website...http://www.ccpa.ca/Issues/Transportation/SafetyTrain.asp (http://www.ccpa.ca/Issues/Transportation/SafetyTrain.asp)

If any modern era modelers are interested I shot detail pic's of her and got views of all four side. I'd be happy to share.....

It's great to have a working 12 track yard, filled with odd hoppers, the occasional boxcars, open hoppers and MOW stuff to wonder about.... if you stay on the park and station property there isn't an issue as the switch crews are very friendly. I know many of the guys and they've been great about allowing me access to the Geep's and cabooses.... yes, working cabooses - 2, a CP Rail and SOO van that are used for the daily trips to the mine that yard serves.... all this while sitting either in the near 100 year old station or on the deck, whilst sipping a cool one.... railfanning at it's best.

DuPont also has one of these for training purposes:

They are rather neat, the main challenge would be coming up with every sort of loading equipment to graft onto the car.

Sneaky. I've been shooting the Havelock trains as often as possible all winter... they must have snuck that up there on a weekday train. Saw two scale test cars up there last year, going up to the mine. But that Transcaer car takes the cake.

Pud, the "My Railroad Photography" link below has some of my Havelock stuff posted, though nothing in the yard itself... just the road freights.

I think it came up Thursday but I'm not certain. The station waitresses didn't know as they don't pay much attention to the goings on of the yard... except the day in February when the plow came through on the number one track and was throwing snow, ice and fresh ballast that had been laid just before Christmas THROUGH THE STATIONS WINDOWS..... that got their undivided attention I understand.

I can't imagine who in this neck of the woods would be using the car so I'm guessing it won't stay long and will get shunted out this week....
