Dont know how many on the RW are aware of Marks layout, its a pretty nice set up. I know Craig has operated on it. Nice to see another basement sized N layout to keep those HO guys worried!

His layout is one of the one's that propelled me into planning, design, and now construction for mine (and Bruce Faulkenr's Shenandoah Division by way of the CSX Dixe Line) since when I joined the LDSIG his layout was the featured one in the latest/last LDJ published. Really nice layout. Notice, it incorporates some RTR and Built Up stuff, but he's put it all together so well that it doesn't detract at all.

In fact, it's probably made the whole effort possible. Hmm... so maybe there is a place for this stuff in our world. Uh oh!

Agree with everyone above, I've watched these videos for some time and it's help to inspire my current modern layout. I want to say that he was on the model railcast show at some point but I can't remember when?

I'll second all the positive comments.

One thing I noted was that every geographic "event" (siding, road crossing/overpass, river, mountain summit, etc.) was neatly labeled on the fascia. To me, that made the railroad seem even longer than it actually is--your eye pauses, if only for a moment, to scan each label. And the experience of time passing is based on the number of events, not the number of seconds.

John Armstrong was a big fan of that sort of descriptive detail--he used to say that "making signs is easier than doing real work."

Love the clean look of the layout, very contemporary, mock-ups where
future industries will go, mock scenery as well, meaning the table top
is painted green until it get's scenery. Part of it remind me of Joe
Fugate's - Same vicinity. Love the SP patch in the yard.

Awesome! I had the privilege of working with him on the Belmont Shore layout for a short while. The layout and the details speak to his excellence as a modeler!

As noted, Mark is a great modeler with an amazing layout in every aspect.  I really admire Mark's ability to compress prototype scenes for use on his layout; most of the scenes are of actual points on the prototype.  I won't give too much away, but look for a cover story on Mark's layout in a coming issue of N Scale Railroading.
