So, what era? Judging by the schemes I'd say rather contemporary.

Late 1970's I think. The rebuilts are good for 2001+

Those are all modern schemes, but the car itself can date back to the 1960s.

Does anybody have anymore info on these cars? Like when the came out and where do these run? Do the NRDX Cold Trains run in unit trains or all over?

Bobcat,

The NRDX Cold Train are not run in unit trains. It's a fleet of 75 recondtioned 57' mechanical Reefers markewted by Rail Logistics.

I've gotten pictures of them in Bettendorf Iowa and Brewster Ohio. The logo and paint scheme are pretty cool.

I'm looking forward to these.  I modified one of the Athearn models to open up the ends, but  botched the paint job, so it's sitting in limbo until I get motivated to re-strip it.  Now it may never happen.

I might be interested in finishing that!

Same, I had a couple of the Molcova resin detail kits to go along with the Athearn reefers that will now probably wait a few more years before they see the light of day.... Probably for the best, I should work on SPFE reefers first anyway.

You're on Tom!  Here is where it stands now:

[The reefer unit slides in after painting.]  It's actually not as bad as I remembered. The only problem is the current white isn't quite opaque enough and it's dead flat.  If you can manage a very thin coat of gloss white, it probably wouldn't need stripping.  PM me and we can make arrangements.  All I ask is that you post pictures of your results.  Smiley

This is a cool release! (no pun intended)

These cars are pushing it for me...at the end of my era, but that seems to be pushing a little further out at every opportunity anyway so whadayado?  I bought the Mocalova conversions, too but never got that far with the project.  BNSF actually converted one of the bigger cryo cars (like the Walthers model) for Nestle Foods around the same time they did the R-70-20 type cars and I have started that conversion.

I wanted one of the ARMN cars because they have bright red LED temperature indicators installed and they were very prominent on the cars early on.  I'm not sure if they are still installed or what but they don't seem to be visible as much anymore.  Maybe they decided to only have them come on during certain conditions, dunno.  But regardless I thought that would be a nice touch to have a very low brightness red LED installed and piped out.

The era on these cars is very modern.....2001/2002 for the ARMN cars and I think BNSF did their conversions (and not nearly on the scale UP did) a year or two prior, (2000-ish...haven't quite nailed down the date yet) before scrapping the idea in favor of the big gigantic potato palace icecicle-scheme cars they bought.  From the supplied link it appears that the NRDX cars are much later still.

I'm in for one BNSF and one ARMN, can't wait!

You're talking about the original cars, not the conversions.

Not saying IMRC won't do them, but it would be additional tooling, as these have a big hole in the roof. (and sides)

What other paint schemes could these be offered in?

Doesn't Tropicana have cars like these?
