Damn!  I've got all my investments tied up in Elvis commemorative plates, and black velvet Jesus paintings.

I'll never understand why people try to sell things in lumps like this.  They'll never get out of it what they've got in it.

When I sell stuff, I try to put together lots that make sense.  You know, an engine, a handful of cars of matching region or era, and a caboose.  I still tend to lose a few bucks, but that kind of grouping usually attracts the attention of people looking to get started and there's a little competition to run the price up a bit.

I hate it when I see a lot that includes nothing but cabooses from a bunch of different railroads.  If there's one in the lot that I like, I might offer a bid that reflects the value only of that one.  If someone else wants to fool with parting the rest of it out, they're welcome to bid more.

I also don't like individual car sales.   Only occasionally does one seller have a few pieces that I would find value in paying combined shipping, otherwise the shipping charges push the price beyond what I'm willing to pay.

If the guy would break up the lot into a few (or more) reasonable packages, I bet he could get at least half again what he's asking.  As it is, the starting bid is so ridiculously high, that a lot of people can't even justify looking at the list.

Half of that is in the engines alone, at least!  The other half is the FR freight cars. Grin

I would guess 11K if sold individually.

Depends entirely on the scale, Lee. There are far fewer buyers in Z, so you usually wind up selling to only a handful of people, and the shipping gets combined anyway. Everything sells, usually at a decent price.

I would guess 11K if sold individually.

I would guess a lot more than that.

I only see 7 locomotives the rest are cars. I know some of them are expensive, but I guess the price just looked way high to me.

Then again I just looked on me shelf of MT cars. Doesn't look like much to me, but there is around $800 worth on that shelf. Maybe I need to stop buying stuff.

I see $1500-2000 in locos, what am I missing that brings it up to ~$6,000 in locos and another $6,000 in rollingstock?

I though it was kind of high.The only item that its hard to get is the SW1 and the boxcab. Except for the FRs, you can easily buy the others. Still, Micheal is a good guy, and I hope he gets what he is asking.

Didn't see the boxcab listed unless it is the "EY03" so that is 8 loco's.

I think he would have more luck with some better photos.

Not including any provision for a boxcab, I counted 11 "sets" (single, or sets of locos).

If the A-B-A and A-B listings are separated, it's 12 + boxcab, and 2 dummy B units. 

He only lists 11 in the description, including the boxcab...


I was really starting to wonder about the total, as well.
A quick tally in a word processor gives me 321 items.  Removing the locomotives gives 309 pieces of rolling stock. If you figure an average of $16 each, the total value is about $4944.  If you give the locos an average of, say, $130 each, it's $1560; or $1200 @ $100/ea.

Combined, you've got $6144 to $6504 for a really rough estimate of used pricing.  (Not including the rolling stock sets.  I'm not going to take the time to count all that crap.)

$6,999 might be reasonable, but I don't know that he'll have any takers.

Thing is, the FRs could fetch up to as much as $100 each. And then he's got track, structures and other stuff.

Agreed, though, that it might be a tough sell for the whole lot.
