Leo's actually doing something really cool there by using the "mountain line" as the primary scenic focus. I've seen a number of modules that do that, or at least give it a really good treatment, and I've always liked the approach. It allows for pass-through "display running" down below and still lets you have a single track main.

I think the mountain line gets the shaft a lot.  I've got plans for an amazing scene based entirely on the mountain line.  24 feet of modules (4x6') with an idea for an additional 6'.  I would have started on it already, but being where there is not a strong club presence having 4 corners and some POFF's so I had something to run trains on was a priority.  I'm about 2/3rds done with that goal though, if I can get my 6x14 layout fully up and running I'm going to start on the bigger project.

Cool I've never seen that type of cab on a B&O Fairmont M9 before!

The SWP loco is pretty cool. The guy who ones that RR and the one in Pittsburgh also used to own New Hampshire Northcoast here. But they decided to go with green instead of the maroon. They started out with a bunch of former CR GP8's in the early 90's and now have 2 GP38-2s, a GP18, and one remaining GP8.  They had planned on paining them in the maroon scheme at one time but stuck with the green over the years. They eventually sold it off to Castle Corp which owns Pike Industries who now owns the Ossipee Aggregates pit that NHN was created to serve.

My wife's finally out of the hospital and is going into physical therapy at a facility in Riverdale, MD and it's less than 2 blocks from the CSX crossing.  I'm back to work and when I go visit her I leave early enough to catch some CSX and MARC action at the crossing.  Good to catch some train action after the last couple weeks.  A Westbound coal train went through the other day and was moving like a bat out of he!!.  Fastest I've seen a coal train move in a long time.  I'll post some photos on Thursday.

When I attended the University of Richmond from 1988 to 1992, I used to go down to the CSX (former C&O) tracks along the James River.  Those coal trains sometimes flew through there, too, and it was often scary if you were near the tracks.  I remember one rail joint that deflected several inches by the passage of each car.  I don't know what kept those cars and their contents out of the canal.

When I lived in Charles Town, WVa, 82-83, this was my favorite haunt.  The old N&W station on the Shenandoah line.  We'd hang around on the platform in front of the building (which apparently is now being used as a grain storage bin) and intermodals would blow past at easily 50-60 mph.  We'd never think about things like a loose banding strap, or a shifted piece of lumber taking our heads off... but we probably should have!

I was at the Newark, Delaware train station on the Northeast Corridor several months ago, and I decided to approach the railing to check for any action on the tracks.  As I leaned just ever so slightly out over the railing, to try to peek around some foliage and see down the tracks, an Acela trainset came flying past on the closest track.  I'm not sure who was alarmed more: the Acela engineer or me after he/she laid on the horn!  Talk about your bad timing!  Despite what others say, though, my head is still attached.

That's the first time I've been back to that location in about 36 years.  Last time I was there the track was mostly setting in mud and grime.  Looks good now.  Couple friends and I went there on a Friday evening and an Eastbound with I think 3 GP-35's came screaming thru.  Some of the rails was bouncing up and down a couple inches.  Think that was the only time I actually decided to step back a few yards and hope it stayed on the tracks.  AT least the other day with good trackwork the coal train didn't scare me any.  Here's a shot of the train heading West.  Noticed that the CPL's are still in place.
